The company that supplies dairy products to kindergarten No. 5 in the Akkurgan district of the Tashkent region, where the mass poisoning of children occurred in August, belongs to the son of the head of the district, the Uzbek service of Radio Liberty found out during its investigation.
In August, more than 30 kindergarten students were hospitalized with signs of poisoning, one child died.
According to the documents that are at the disposal of journalists, Shark Milk Product LLC became the winner of the tender among companies for the supply of food to kindergartens, held in May this year by the preschool education department of the Akkurgan region.
The publication writes, referring to the data of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, that a certain Omonov Fazliddin Farhodovich owns a 100 percent share in the authorized capital of Shark Milk Product LLC.
According to sources from the Uzbek service of Radio Liberty, this man is the son of the head of the Akkurgan region, Farhod Omonov.
In May, a special competition committee at the preschool education department of the Akkurgan region selected Shark Milk Product LLC among the proposed companies that supply food to kindergartens. This follows from the minutes of the meeting of the commission, to which the journalists refer.
According to government procurement data posted on the Uzex.uz website, this company has supplied pasteurized milk, sour milk, kaymak and cottage cheese to kindergartens in the Akkurgan region since May. The total amount of supplied dairy products amounted to almost half a billion soums (about 47 thousand dollars).
Press secretary of the Akkurgan district administration Batyr Boybutaev, in a telephone conversation with the journalist of the publication, confirmed that Fazliddin Omonov is the son of the head of the district, Farhod Omonov. However, he denied information that the official’s son is a supplier of food products to kindergartens in the district.
“Our hokim really has a son named Fazliddin, but this guy does not supply food in Akkurgan. He sits in Tashkent, does business. I know for sure that he does not supply food to kindergartens at all,” Batyr said. Boybutaev.
The journalists were unable to contact representatives of Shark Milk Product LLC.
Later, the press secretary of the Ministry of Preschool Education of Uzbekistan, Mavlyuda Askarhodzhaeva, told the publication that this company is indeed engaged in the supply of dairy products to all kindergartens in the Akkurgan region and continues to do so to this day.
Batyr Boybutaev, press secretary of the Akkurgan district administration, told the Uzbek service of Radio Liberty that the investigation into the poisoning of kindergarten inmates has not yet been completed.
