Ecuador’s judiciary has scheduled the trial of cybersecurity activist Ola Bini. On October 21 and 22, the activist will have his trial hearing at the Criminal Court of the Court of the Province of Pichincha.
The Swede is a friend of Julian Assange and was detained in Ecuador just hours after the WikiLeaks founder was arrested in London in April 2019, after then-Ecuadorian President Lenín Moreno revoked his asylum status. Bini was detained by Ecuadorian authorities for 70 days, at the end of which he was released to answer the case in freedom,

A report by the NGO Access Now, based on research from Harvard University, points out that Bini is the target of judicial harassment and is persecuted without evidence of any crime. Amnesty International said it found “violations of the legal process that could mean the case against Ola Bini is unfair” and called on the Ecuadorian state to stop “bullying” its lawyers.
Initially, Bini was charged with an alleged attack on computer systems, but later the prosecution changed the charge and charged him with unauthorized access to a digital system.
