During the debate in the Central District Court of Khabarovsk, the prosecutor requested two years in prison for the former head of Navalny’s local headquarters, Alexei Vorsin, under the “Dada article.” About this Siberia. Realities reported lawyer Vitaly Tykhta.
According to the investigators, during the six months Vorsin was filed with protocols under an administrative article on violation of the rules of public events (Article 20.2), and in January he published a video “calling to take part in an uncoordinated rally.” For “repeated violation of the rules of a public event” Vorsin was charged under the so-called Dada article – 212.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (repeated violation of the rules for holding rallies).
At the trial on September 10 Vorsin statedthat during a search in March riot police broke into him and started beating him with the requirement to provide a PIN code from his phone. While the search was going on, Vorsin was in handcuffs for four hours. The detainee repeatedly asked for the opportunity to get dressed, since he was wearing only tights, but he was not allowed. He was also not allowed to sit down or lean on a table or wall, while they beat him on the legs with ankle boots.
In 2020, Vorsin was an organizer and an active participant in protests in support of the arrested governor Sergei Furgal, and was also going to run for the State Duma in the September elections.
In the Khabarovsk Territory, Vorsin was known before working at Navalny’s headquarters. He organized his first rally back in 2007, and was also an election observer, coordinated the work of various public organizations and was engaged in human rights activities. In 2018, Alexey Vorsin tried to compete for the chair of the mayor of Khabarovsk, but was removed from the elections by a court decision.
At Navalny’s headquarters, Vorsin became the author of a large investigation about Alexey Izotov, the “king” of the Khabarovsk housing and communal services and the owner of a gigantic landfill. The half-hour film was watched by almost 50 thousand people. But Vorsin’s associates believe that the criminal case against the activist could hardly have been initiated by the heroes of his investigations. Social activist Stanislav Zimin is sure that criminal prosecution is, first of all, an attempt by the current government to exclude a dangerous competitor and critic from the game. It is no coincidence that this was done after Alexei Vorsin announced his plans to run in the State Duma elections at the end of December.
FBK and the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights, founded by Navalny, were added to the list of extremist organizations on August 10. In early June, these two funds and the headquarters of the politician were declared extremist by the Moscow City Court. The decision was made following a lawsuit filed by the prosecutor’s office, in which it stated that “under the guise of liberal slogans, these organizations are creating conditions for the destabilization of the social and socio-political situation.”
