Partially recognized Republic of Kosovo sends two Russian diplomats. This was announced on Friday by the President of Kosovo, Viosa Osmani. How is she wrote on facebook, The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Kosovo has decided to declare the Russians undesirable persons. Earlier, the President of Kosovo sent a request to the government to declare Russian diplomats as persons of the feet of the grata because of their “malicious activities.” What kind of activity we are talking about is not reported.
Osmani also accused Russia and its “agents in the region” of seeking to undermine the achievements of Kosovo, the US, NATO and the EU in the region. According to Osmani, together with its American and European allies, Kosovo will oppose Russia’s attempts to “make the region a victim of the destabilizing ambitions of the Russian Federation.”
Russia does not recognize the independence of Kosovo from Serbia and, accordingly, has no diplomatic relations with the republic. In Prishina, however, the office of the Russian Embassy in Serbia operates. The Kosovo authorities call it “the liaison office of the Russian Federation in Kosovo”.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has not yet commented on the expulsion of diplomats.
In recent weeks, the situation has escalated in the predominantly Serb regions of northern Kosovo, where clashes have occurred between representatives of the local population and the special forces of the Kosovo police, as well as on the border between Serbia and a republic whose independence Serbia does not recognize.
Most of the UN member states recognize the independence of Kosovo, proclaimed in 2009, but it is not recognized by the two countries of the UN Security Council (Russia and China), as well as Serbia and several EU countries.
