Medvedchuk was left under house arrest
The appeals of the defense and the prosecutor’s office were not satisfied, and the preventive measure remained the same.
The Kyiv Court of Appeal on Friday, December 17, left unchanged the measure of restraint for the head of the political council of the party OLE, Viktor Medvedchuk. He remains under house arrest.
The panel of judges of the Criminal Trial Chamber examined appeals filed by the politician’s lawyers and the prosecutor’s office. They appealed against the decision of the investigator of the judge of the Pechersky District Court of Kiev dated October 12, 2021 to refuse to satisfy the petition to apply a preventive measure against Medvedchuk in the form of detention and to impose round-the-clock house arrest on him.
The ruling of the first instance court dated October 12 was left unchanged. The appeals of the defense and the prosecutor’s office were dismissed.
Recall that earlier in October, the court once again sent Medvedchuk under house arrest, although prosecutors demanded that he be sent to a pre-trial detention center with a bail of 1 billion hryvnia.
For the first time, an electronic bracelet was put on the chairman of the political council of the OPSZ in May of this year. Criminal proceedings against Medvedchuk were opened under the article on treason. But later, another episode was added to the suspicion under the article on treason, and also an article on the financing of terrorism was added.
