U.S. Senate passes Uyghur slave labor bill

The US Senate unanimously passed a bill aimed at countering China in connection with the genocide of the Muslim population in Xinjiang. Earlier, the House of Representatives passed the Law on the Prevention of Uyghur Forced Labor. The document will now be sent for signature to President Joe Biden.

The bipartisan initiative bans the import of goods and materials from China’s Xinjiang region unless proven to be made without the use of slave labor. writes “Voice of America”.

The United States and other countries have accused Beijing of sending more than a million Muslim Uyghurs and members of other minorities to internment camps and prisons since 2017. Prisoners are indoctrinated into giving up their religion and language. At the beginning of the year, Washington blamed genocide on the persecution of the Uyghur population in China.

The Chinese authorities describe the camps as centers for retraining and re-education necessary to cope with terrorism and extremism.
