Ukraine may face gas shortages at the beginning of the year
Without gas imports in March, its deficit will exceed a billion cubic meters, the media write, citing a letter from the GTS Operator.
By the end of the heating season, Ukraine may face a shortage of gas in the absence of imports, writes on Tuesday, December 28, RBK-Ukraine with reference to a letter from the Ukrainian GTS Operator to the Prime Minister and Minister of Energy.
The publication estimates the volume of a possible gas deficit in one billion cubic meters.
“The expected gas shortage in the heating season 2021-2022 during the peak cooling in January 2022 is 128 million cubic meters, in February – 240 cubic meters. The forecast deficit in March is 1100 million cubic meters. This situation may lead to limiting the volume of natural gas transportation to customers of services, and may also negatively affect transit obligations, “the letter says.
It is noted that the calculation was carried out on the assumption that in February and March there will be gas imports – 225 million cubic meters each. m and 265 million cubic meters. m respectively. Without imports, the situation will be even more difficult.
The publication notes that Naftogaz, like other traders, has not yet booked capacity for January, and, therefore, is not going to import gas.
As of December 27, Ukraine’s gas reserves amount to 13.915 billion cubic meters. m. Since the beginning of the heating season, a quarter of the reserves have been taken – 4.785 billion cubic meters. m.
