Since last Sunday (16), a video has been circulating on social networks that shows the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL), singing at a gospel event aimed at young people in the Olympic Park, on the west side of the capital. In the images, a crowded crowd follows the show.
Due to the significant increase in cases of covid-19 caused by the omicron variant, experts and health authorities do not recommend agglomerations. This was the reason that led to the cancellation of this year’s street carnival in Rio.
However, Cláudio Castro himself published the record and thanked him for participating in the event organized by Força Jovem Universal in his account at Instagram.
After the post, several people criticized the presence of the governor at the event. Most of the comments indicate the inconsistency of their participation in the festival at the same time that the street carnival was cancelled. Also due to the fact that the governor himself manifested himself against the agglomerations in the period of the pandemic.
The governor did not respond to questions about the agglomeration of the public at the event. To the press, his office sent a note in which he only explained that the invitation was accepted at the last minute.
“Governor Cláudio Castro was returning from agendas related to the serious effects of the rains that hit municipalities in the North/Northwest Region and, following an invitation, he participated in the Luau Força Jovem Universal event”, says the statement.
