The Presidential Office responded to Erdogan’s proposal for a Ukraine-Russia summit in Turkey

Turkey perfectly understands the situation in our region, they are well aware of the motives of both Ukrainians and Russians, the Presidential Office said.

The proposal of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to hold talks between Ukrainian and Russian Presidents Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin in Turkey is well thought out. This was stated by adviser to the head of the Office of the President Mikhail Podolyak, informs RBC-Ukraine on Wednesday, January 19.

“Undoubtedly, the proposal from the Turkish side is thought out, there is potential. Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan perfectly understand the situation in our region, they are well aware of the motives of both Ukrainians and Russians. And it is clear that Turkey is well aware of its strategic interests,” Podolyak said. .

According to him, Russia does not have confidence in its rightness, so it is in a blind position.

“But one way or another, their proposal runs into the problem that the Russian side does not feel its negotiating position is really strong. The same answer about the Minsk agreements to any questions, including those escalation steps that Russia is taking and to the detriment of the same Minsk agreements, this is evidence that the Russian side does not have confidence in its rightness and there is a tendency to “lock” itself in a rather deaf position. Hence the rejection of a more flexible diplomatic game,” Podolyak added.

He concluded that the Russian side would have to get out of its “deaf” position and move towards the fulfillment of its obligations, whatever the negotiation format.

Earlier, the media reported that Russia pulled 130,000 troops to the border with Ukraine. The build-up of the military power of the Russian Federation near the Ukrainian border has reached the finish line.

At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry assures that they are not going to attack Ukraine. The country’s foreign ministry said that the Russian Federation will not attack, attack and invade Ukraine.
