The result was based on data from Sivep/Gripe, the Ministry of Health’s information system that records cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The survey considered the hospitalization of 121 people for SARS with confirmed covid-19, of which 49 needed ICU, between December 5, 2021 and January 15. The initial period coincides with the beginning of the circulation of the omicron variant in the city (the first case was confirmed on December 10, 2021).
Of the 121 cases found in the system, 28 were people who had no dose or who had an incomplete regimen and needed an ICU bed. It is noteworthy, according to data from the vaccinometer of the capital, this Thursday, that only 91,084 (7.5%) people have an incomplete scheme in the city of Porto Alegre. That is, the chance of being admitted to an ICU bed in this group is one person for every 3,253 people, while the chance of a person with a complete regimen is one person for every 53,346 people.

Other relevant data from the analysis indicate that 84% of the cases (102) are of people with some comorbidity or risk factor and 58%, or 70 patients, are elderly.
“It is especially important that people with comorbidities try to maintain a complete vaccination schedule. In addition, we reinforce the importance of distancing – that people avoid promoting or participating in parties and agglomerations – the proper use of good masks and hand hygiene frequently with soap and water or 70% alcohol”, emphasizes the director of Municipal Health Surveillance, Fernando Ritter.
