Hungary called the condition for supporting Ukraine’s accession to NATO

Budapest is dissatisfied with the situation with the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine, said Peter Szijjártó.

Hungary will support Ukraine’s membership in NATO if Kiev fulfills the demands of Budapest regarding the observance of the rights of ethnic Hungarians. About it declared Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in an interview with TASS on Thursday, January 20.

“Ukrainians need to make a number of serious changes if they are seriously thinking about Euro-Atlantic integration. I will say specifically about one such area: respect for the rights of national minorities, because Ukraine has many shortcomings here,” Szijjártó said.

According to him, Budapest is dissatisfied with the situation with the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine.

“Their rights to education in their native language, to use it in administration, in culture and religion are being violated. The law that prohibits persons with dual citizenship from holding public office is anti-democratic. We understand the challenges Ukraine faces, its struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity, but we will never accept such an approach towards national minorities,” Szijjártó added.

Recall that earlier the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said that Ukraine is ready to join NATO. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have mastered more than 300 NATO standards, and now joining NATO depends on politicians, Zaluzny stressed.
