Risk of invasion: Blinken turned to the Russians

US State Department Secretary Anthony Blinken

The head of the US State Department called on the whole world to pay attention to what is happening in and around Ukraine.

Western countries do not seek to jeopardize the security of Russia and its people, the Kremlin is responsible for the escalation around Ukraine. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at briefing on Thursday, January 20th.

“And if I could talk to the Russian people, I would tell them that you deserve to live in safety, with dignity, like all people around the world, and no one – not Ukraine, not the United States, not NATO or member countries – does not seek to jeopardize it,” the diplomat said.

At the same time, he recalled that in the event of an invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, citizens of the Russian Federation would also suffer losses.

“What really threatens your security is a senseless war with your neighbors in Ukraine, with all the ensuing costs. First of all, for young people who will risk or even give their lives for it,” Blinken stressed.

At the same time, the representative of Washington called on the whole world to pay attention to what is happening in and around Ukraine. He said “this is not a distant regional conflict or another example of Russian bullying,” but principles that have made the world safe and stable for decades are at stake.

Note that the head of the US State Department made his statement on the eve of negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva.

As reported, US President Joe Biden warned that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “would be a disaster” for Moscow, as the United States and its partners are ready to cause serious damage to the Russian economy.
