Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ursula von der Leyen discussed the Russian aggression against Ukraine, Nord Stream 2 and the expansion of financial assistance from the EU.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The interlocutors discussed the situation with the military escalation of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Nord Stream-2 and energy security. This is reported on site Office of the President.

“The head of state informed the interlocutor about the development of the security situation along the borders of Ukraine. The President thanked the head of the European Commission for the consistent support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state, as well as a clear position on the need to tighten EU sanctions against the Russian Federation. The leaders agreed on the need to continue joint coordinated efforts to preventing the escalation of the conflict,” the statement said.

The interlocutors also discussed the challenges for European energy security. In particular, the talk was about preparations for holding an international energy business forum in Ukraine. Zelensky also drew attention to the threats not only to Ukraine, but to the whole of Europe, which would be created by the possible launch of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.

In addition, the expansion of financial assistance to Ukraine from the EU was discussed.
