Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) overturned six vetoes placed by Governor Cláudio Castro (PL) to bills passed by the Legislative House. The decision totaled 45 favorable votes last Tuesday (22).
Now, the projects will be forwarded to the governor of Rio de Janeiro, who has up to 48 hours to sanction them. Otherwise, they will be promulgated by the president of Alerj, deputy André Ceciliano (PT).
According to information from Alej’s Portalthis week, another 26 vetoes will be analyzed in the sessions this Wednesday (23) and Thursday (24).
Among the measures that had vetoes overturned is the veto of Bill 4,884/21, which allocates the prescribed prizes of games exploited, directly or indirectly, by the Lottery of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Loterj) to the categories of Paralympic sports and training clubs for these athletes. The project is by deputies Bebeto (Pode) and Martha Rocha (PDT).
Also the Bill 4.605/21, by deputy Eliomar Coelho (Psol), which authorizes the government of the State of Rio to establish the preservation of cultural heritage as one of the criteria for transferring the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) to the municipalities. The percentage to be transferred to each municipality based on this category would be defined by the government itself.
“The state of Rio de Janeiro has a rich and important cultural heritage, but the municipalities find it very difficult to preserve and disseminate these cultural assets. Considering its importance, including for the economic, cultural and tourist development of the state, and the experiences of other states such as Minas Gerais, we propose this initiative as a starting point for a new policy for the preservation of these assets”, explained Eliomar to the Alej’s Portal.
The veto of Bill 1,205/19, which authorizes the institution of temporary special hiring of retired volunteers in the area of Public Security in the State of Rio de Janeiro, was also partially overturned.
