This Thursday morning (24), the Federal Police (PF) carried out an operation at the headquarters of the Pentecostal church Geração Jesus Cristo, in Rio de Janeiro, to detain Pastor Tupirani da Hora Lores. He was pre-trial detained on charges of racism and hate crimes against Jews.
The religious leader is known for publicizing his preaching against blacks, women, gays and other religions on social media. The operation was coordinated by the PF’s Cyber Crime Repression Group, as the videos are published by the pastor himself on the internet.

In a 2020 service, he stated that Jews “should be shamed as they were in WWII”. In the same recording, Tupirani also attacked African matrix religions.
In addition to racism and threats, Tupirani can also answer for crimes of incitement and apology for crime. If convicted, the penalty could be up to 26 years in prison.

It is not the first time that the pastor has been targeted by the PF for hate speech. In March of last year, a complaint resulted in the search and seizure of materials at the Pentecostal church Geração Jesus Cristo, after a video in which Tupirani called for the “massacre” of Jews.
Earlier, in 2012, the pastor and a disciple were convicted by the 20th Criminal Court of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ) for spreading ideas of religious discrimination on the internet.
This Thursday’s arrest (24) is part of Operation Rófeshwhich in Hebrew means freedom “alluding to recent discussions on the limits of freedom of expression”, according to the PF.
