The Minsk City Court sentenced the jaw surgeon Andrey Lyubetsky to five years in a penal colony, informs human rights center “Spring”.
Lyubetsky was charged with four articles of the Criminal Code: participation in group actions that grossly violate public order (Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code); inciting social hatred (part 1 of article 130); insulting a representative of authority (Article 369); insulting the president (part 1 of article 368).
According to investigators, the surgeon “in every way prevented the provision of medical care to police officers and members of their families, urged his colleagues to such unlawful actions.” He is also accused of participating in eight protests and writing posts on social networks that were qualified as insulting and inciting hatred.
In his last speech, Andrei Lyubetsky noted that his experience, knowledge and skills would be useful to many people if he were free. “[У меня] an extremely exclusive specialization, and in Belarus, specialists of my level can be counted on the fingers of one, maximum two hands,” he said. – As for dental implantation, he has reached quite high heights in this area. I am only stating the facts, including the fact that people from all over Belarus came for treatment, including from abroad.”
Andrei Lyubetsky was detained on May 4, 2021 after a search was carried out at his home. In one of his last posts on his Facebook page, Lyubetsky urged stop harassing and mocking people, informing and promoting repression.
Lyubetsky is a well-known jaw surgeon who performed unique plastic surgery for cleft palate and face. Prior to private practice, he worked for almost 18 years in the 4th Children’s Hospital. His wife Natalia is a dentist. She went abroad with her four children. Previously, she was detained in Minsk and called “an accomplice of a terrorist.”
