In Russia, the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Ground Forces was awarded the honorary title “Guards”. Such an order signed Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The document notes that the title is “for mass heroism and courage, fortitude and courage shown by the personnel of the brigade in combat operations to protect the Fatherland and state interests in armed conflicts.”
The 64th brigade is stationed in the Khabarovsk Territory. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine accused the soldiers of this brigade “of committing massacres and torture of civilians in Bucha.” Radio Liberty writes that in the studied open sources there is indirect evidence that the soldiers of this brigade were indeed in the city.
In early April, journalists and Ukrainian authorities reported dozens of dead on the streets of the city of Bucha, northwest of Kyiv. Photos of the dead in civilian clothes, sometimes with their hands tied, were published Reuters, UNIAN, AFP. The Ukrainian military then entered the city after the Russian troops left.
The New York Times claims that its correspondents determined the place and time of the death of several dozen people, and also spoke with witnesses who confirmed that the inhabitants of Bucha were victims of the Russian military.
The Russian Defense Ministry called photographs and videos of civilians killed in Bucha near Kiev “another provocation” and “staged by the Kiev regime for the Western media.”
