Customs officers suspected of assisting Medvedchuk’s companies in smuggling
In 2017-2018, a company from the field of Viktor Medvedchuk imported oil products by rail and road, and the documents noted that gas condensate was transported in tanks – not excisable goods.
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicion to ten more employees of the Mukachevo customs post of the Transcarpathian customs. Due to the assistance of customs officials to companies controlled by Viktor Medvedchuk, the state budget lost more than 24 million hryvnias.
It is reported that during 2017-2018, a company from the field of Viktor Medvedchuk imported oil products by rail and road, and the documents noted that gas condensate was transported in tanks – not excisable goods.
“During customs clearance, customs officials ‘did not notice’ the substitution and cleared light, medium distillates as gas condensate. This allowed the organizers to evade payment of excise tax and VAT for millions of hryvnias,” the report says.
Employees of the customs post are suspected of improper performance of their duties due to an unfair attitude towards them, which entailed grave consequences for the state interests (part 2 of article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 5 years.
Recall that this month, the DBR has already reported suspicions to three employees of this customs post, because of whose actions the state budget lost 7.8 million hryvnias when importing these oil products.
