A public hearing discussed the crisis faced by the Technical School Support Foundation (Faetec), maintained by the state government, last Thursday (12). The meeting was organized by the Education and Science and Technology committees of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj).

“Food is a very critical issue. A clearer breakdown of Faetec’s food allowance is needed, which helps to establish parameters and clearly explains what the institution is entitled to. We need a student assistance policy that guarantees full food, helping to reduce dropout rates. The universities in Rio have been able to do it, and Faetec, even with higher education, is not able to”, said the president of the Education Commission, deputy Flávio Serafini (PSol), at the hearing, according to information from the Alerj portal.
President of the Science and Technology commission, deputy Waldeck Carneiro (PSB) also drew attention to the food provided to employees, who do not receive assistance. “We are talking about the only agency of the State Department of Science, Technology and Innovation in which professionals do not receive food aid”.
Representing the student body of the Bacaxá Technical School, in the city of Saquarema, Gabriel Ibrahim reported on the difficulties faced by several units of the network.

“Problems such as bidding are not new in the public service. They are recurring. Some units have been without power for weeks. Full-time is committed. I, for example, spend three hours commuting to my house to eat, if there is no snack, I can’t. Students at the Adolpho Bloch school eat one persimmon in the morning and one in the afternoon. At the Nova Iguaçu unit, students are asking to bring it warm from home,” he said.
The director of Human Resources at Faetec, Beatriz Greco, said that the institution also faces difficulties in filling vacant positions.
“For vacancies, such as cases of death and retirement, we were not able to place temporary teachers, despite having taken a public contest. We were only able to efficiently replace the absences. Of the 300 vacancies we were only able to request the replacement of 48, and there was still no release. We encountered a number of difficulties on account of the state’s Tax Recovery Regime,” he said.
