Professionals, students, researchers and users of the Unified Health System (SUS) meet this Friday (20) in Recife to start preparation for the National Free, Democratic and Popular Health Conference. The event is scheduled to take place on August 5th, National Health Day.
This Friday’s meeting takes place from 18 pm at Armazém do Campo, located at Av. Martins de Barros, nº387, Santo Antônio. The meeting also serves as preparation for the 17th National Health Conference, scheduled for 2023.
The activity is carried out by the Brazilian Center for Health Studies (Cebes) together with Frente Pela Vida, formed in April 2020, bringing together various entities fighting for public health, democracy, human rights and science. The front built mobilizations in defense of decent food, employment, vaccine, rapid tests, health treatments, basic income and issues related to the functioning of SUS in the context of a pandemic.
100% public health
Free conferences, unlike those organized by public bodies, allow for greater popular participation, with a greater presence of SUS users and also a deepening of the proposals, which are debated over the course of various preparatory activities.
In this context, the guidelines of the National Free, Democratic and Popular Health Conference are the defense of 100% public health; stable SUS funding; Repeal of EC 95, which stipulates a ceiling on investments in health; interruption of the privatization of health services and transversal agendas to the theme, such as the structuring of the career of professionals in the area and the defense of the environment.
