United States Senate approved a bill to allocate additional assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $40 billion. About it informs Voice of America.
The funds will be directed directly to military assistance and arms supplies to Ukraine and neighboring countries.
Billions of dollars will be directed to economic and humanitarian assistance, including funds to address the global food shortage caused by the conflict, the newspaper writes.
On May 13, the Senate was unable to pass this document due to the fact that it was blocked by Republican Rand Paul. He demanded that a clause be added to the bill on the audit of expenditures by a federal inspector, who will monitor how the funds allocated from the budget will be spent.
Nearly $40 billion bill was accepted by the lower house of Congress on May 10. US President Joe Baden asked Congress for $33 billion for Ukraine, but congressmen decided to increase the proposed amount.
The bill will be sent to Joe Biden for signature.
