The Russian Foreign Ministry announced sanctions against 41 Canadian citizens. They are banned from entering Russia, reported on the website of the department.
In particular, we are talking about the leadership and members of the Canadian Ukrainian Congress, the World Congress of Ukrainians, the Ukrainian Credit Union, the Carpathian Credit Union and the Council of Ukrainian Credit Unions.
The list also includes Deputy Defense Ministers Peter Hammerschmidt, Troy Crosby, Sheri Crosby, Robert Chambers, Len Bastien, Isabel Desmartis, Laurie-Anne Kempton, and Canada’s First Deputy Chief of National Defense Staff Frances Allen.
Authorities in Ottawa previously closed their airspace to Russian aircraft, banned Russian ships from entering Canadian ports and inland waters, banned the export of luxury goods to Russia, and banned Canadian banks from transacting with the CBR.
In total, there are 1,500 individuals and legal entities on Canada’s sanctions list, including President Vladimir Putin, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva, who is called Putin’s confidant. The head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, cellist Sergei Roldugin, Putin’s daughters Katerina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontsova and others also fell under the sanctions.
The House of Commons of Canada at the end of April adopted a resolution recognizing Russia’s actions as genocide of the Ukrainian people. The document says that Russia during the war in Ukraine committed “mass atrocities” and “systematic cases of deliberate killings of civilians in Ukraine.” Member of the House of Commons and the author of the document, Heather McPherson, called on the authorities to tighten sanctions against Russia and increase humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
