The Armed Forces of Belarus began training on the transfer from peacetime to wartime, informs the national defense ministry.
“The general focus of the classes is to conduct a set of consecutive training sessions with all categories of military personnel, subdivisions, military units, formations, military command and control bodies for the organized implementation of measures to transfer from peacetime to wartime,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry of Defense explains that combat readiness classes are organized in accordance with the plan after “the next call for military service and the development of the initial military training program by new recruits.”
Belarus does not formally take part in the war that Russia unleashed in Ukraine, but Moscow uses its territory and railway lines to form trains and send them to Ukraine, as well as to bring ammunition and fuel.
On May 26, 2022, Alexander Lukashenko, at a meeting on ensuring military security, announced the creation of a southern operational command of the armed forces of Belarus.
“Military pressure on us, we already see, will be exerted through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and the troops of the North Atlantic bloc stationed there, as well as by maintaining the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine. Unfortunately, a new direction has opened up, as we usually say, a new front. And we cannot but pay attention to this,” he said then.
