A court in Rostov-on-Don arrested Elena Khakhaleva, a former judge of the Krasnodar Regional Court, in absentia, whom the media called “golden” after organizing her daughter’s wedding for 4.5 million rubles. Khakhaleva is suspected of particularly large-scale fraud and forgery.
In December, the High Qualifications Board of Judges allowed the case against her to be initiated after an appeal by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin. The investigation found that the judge was absent from the workplace for 127 days and fraudulently received almost 1.2 million rubles. At the same time it was reported that she was in Yerevan.
In 2020, Khakhaleva was deprived of the status of a judge on charges of numerous absenteeism – it turned out that she was absent for a total of 128 working days during the year, and during her absence she made air travel.
Earlier, Khakhaleva wrote an open letter to Vladimir Putin, in which she complained about “information blackmail” and forced dismissal.
Elena Khakhaleva gained fame in 2017, when the media wrote about the magnificent wedding of her daughter and the investigator of the Investigative Committee Vadim Badalov. Nikolai Baskov, Valery Meladze, Vera Brezhneva, Joseph Kobzon and other stars were noticed at the celebration. It was then reported that the cost of the event was $2 million. Later, the Council of Judges of the Krasnodar Regional Court found that 4.5 million rubles were spent on the wedding, and previous publications in the media were recognized as slanderous.
In September 2018, Khakhaleva was expelled from the presidium of the regional court, in November she resigned from the post of head of the collegium to the position of an ordinary judge. In August 2019, her suspended from the conduct of trials, sending to the composition of judges with scientific and advisory work.
