German Chancellor Olaf Scholz abandoned the idea of completely nationalizing the former German division of Gazprom, Gazprom Germania, informs Bloomberg citing sources.
According to the interlocutors of the agency, the chancellor considered that such a decision “may anger Russian President Vladimir Putin” and lead to the cessation of Russian gas supplies.
The agency writes that Economy Minister Robert Habek insisted on the complete nationalization of the Gazprom subdivision.
The German government decided to take the company, which was under sanctions, under long-term external management. Since April 4, the company has been managed by the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). In addition, according to Reuters i Spiegelthe German authorities want to provide Gazprom Germania with a multi-billion dollar loan against the risks of possible bankruptcy, we can talk about the amount from 9 to 10 billion euros.
The Gazprom Germania Group owns a gas storage facility in Germany and has a global trading team with subsidiaries in London and Singapore.
On April 1, Gazprom ceased participation in Gazprom Germania and all its assets. Russia imposed sanctions against Gazprom’s foreign subsidiaries on 11 May. At the same time, German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habek said that the former subsidiaries of the Russian company stopped receiving gas.
