Ukraine needs to clear another 270,000 sq. km of territory, including occupied lands. Such data was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs Denis Monastyrsky on the air of the telethon on Friday, June 17.
According to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is necessary to carry out primary operational demining within a year.
“In simple words, the road between settlements should be cleared of mines, the settlement, adjacent territories, as well as areas around settlements should be completely cleared of mines. But complete demining, which includes roads, forest belts, reservoirs, will take years,” he specified.
Monastyrsky warned that in most water bodies in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy and Chernihiv regions, swimming is dangerous due to the presence of explosive devices. At the same time, he noted that for the study of reservoirs, special professional equipment is needed, which is scarce in Ukraine.
However, the minister added, Ukraine has already turned to partners for support.
“We receive all the necessary equipment and clothing for rescuers. Regarding pyrotechnics, this is a very specific technique that costs millions of euros. Today we are negotiating with the UK, France and Italy,” he said.
Recall that as of June 14, the pyrotechnic units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs cleared 2 million hectares, or 20 thousand square meters. m of the territory of Ukraine.
