Acute intestinal infections are among the common infectious diseases that can lead to serious complications, especially in children.
An outbreak of acute intestinal infection was registered in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. About this on Saturday, June 18, informs TSN with reference to the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Eighteen people were reported to have sought medical attention. Of these, fifteen adults and three children. All of them are residents of the capital and the Kyiv region.
“Seventeen of them were hospitalized with preliminary diagnoses of acute intestinal infection and acute gastroenterocolitis. Salmonella enteritidis was isolated from one person,” the report says.
The victims attribute their illness to the use of shawarma, purchased in a pavilion located in the Darnitsa district.
Specialists of the Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention launched an epidemiological investigation, a set of anti-epidemic and preventive measures is being determined and implemented, and the lists of contact persons are being specified. Anti-epidemic measures are ongoing.
Acute intestinal infections (AII), according to WHO terminology – diarrheal diseases, combine more than 30 diseases of bacterial, viral or protozoal etiology, the main symptom of which is acute diarrhea.
According to WHO, up to 1-1.2 billion diarrheal diseases are registered annually.
AII is usually caused by bacteria or viruses that enter the body through contaminated food or water.
“Please do not neglect the rules of personal hygiene, monitor the quality of the food and drinks you consume, especially in the summer when the air temperature rises, which is fraught with the safety of food storage,” the message says.
Earlier it was reported that in the Odessa region in the city of Yuzhny, a 37-year-old man with botulism was hospitalized in serious condition.
