The Ministry of Health released this Monday (20) the second booster dose of the vaccine against covid-19 for people who are over 40 years old. The recommendation is that these individuals be immunized with the Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines.
According to the Ministry, about 8 million people in this age group and who received the third dose more than four months ago are able to carry out the booster immunization. There are also 120 million people able to take the second dose or the booster dose of vaccines and who are less protected against the severe manifestations of the disease.
During the announcement of the expansion of the public able to take the 4th dose, spokespersons for the Ministry of Health emphasized the importance of increasing the population’s adherence to immunizations against covid-19. “Studies show that, irrespective of the age range, vaccines protect against a more serious evolution of the disease. Therefore, we call on the population able to take the second dose or the booster doses to seek a vaccination post to have a more protected,” added the secretary.

In an interview with the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, said that the ministry should release the 4th dose of the vaccine against covid-19 for all people aged 18 or over. The decision would depend, however, on the release of the technical area.
This move comes shortly after the Federal Audit Court reported that the Ministry of Health has more than 28 million doses of vaccines against Covid in stock, which expire until August this year. Of these, 11.7 million mature by July.

where to take?
The timing of the application of the 4th dose in people over 40 years old depends on the decision of each prefecture. In São Paulo, for example, doses were released for people over 45 years old. The immunization of the age group from 40 to 44 years depends on the arrival of more doses in the city. In the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the Federal District, in Teresina and in Belém, everyone over 40 years old and with a 4-month interval in relation to the previous dose can now go to health centers.
