Lawyer Daniel Bialski, who is defending former Minister of Education Milton Ribeiro, confirmed that Myriam Ribeiro, wife of the former minister, received a deposit in the amount of R$ 50 thousand for the sale of a car, in February this year. To EstadãoBialski did not link the money to Ribeiro’s role in the ministry, nor did he say who made the deposit and under what conditions it was made.
The sale, however, would have been made to Victoria Bartolomeu, daughter of Arilton Moura. He is one of the lobbyist pastors involved in the alleged bribery scheme within the Ministry of Education to release resources from the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE) to municipalities.
The suspicious movement of values would have been decisive for the Federal Justice to decree the preventive detention of the former minister, carried out on the morning of this Wednesday (22), according to an investigation by the metropolises. Arilton Moura and Gilmar Santos, another lobbyist pastor involved in the case, were also arrested by the Federal Police as part of Operation Acesso Pago, which is investigating the scheme.
The transfer of the vehicle Kia Sportage year 2015, model 2016, was carried out in Santos (SP), where the former minister currently resides, despite his daughter’s address being from Goiânia. According to Ribeiro’s defense, the sale was “regular, documented and without any illegality”.
Milton Ribeiro, Gilmar Santos and Arilton Moura will undergo a custody hearing at 2 pm this Thursday (22). Ribeiro and Moura will talk virtually about São Paulo and Pará, respectively. Santos will participate in the hearing in person, at the 15th Federal Court of Justice, in Brasília.
In addition to them, former advisor to the Ministry of Education and lawyer Luciano de Freitas Musse and former advisor to the city of Goiânia Hélder Diego Bartolomeu were also arrested this Wednesday in the same operation.
The Federal Justice must also analyze this Thursday a request for habeas corpus for the release of the former minister. Before, the Justice had already denied a request by the defense for Ribeiro to remain in prison in São Paulo, where he spent the night at the Federal Police Superintendence. According to lawyer Daniel Bialski, Ribeiro remained in the capital of São Paulo because the PF did not have the logistical resources to transfer the former minister to Brasília on Wednesday.
According to the lawyer, Ribeiro’s arrest has no legal basis. “Pretrial detention must always be exceptional. The facts took place a long time ago, which excludes the necessary contemporaneity; the ex-minister does not represent any danger to public order, the application of the law and/or criminal investigation and the accusation is not of violent, heinous crimes or whose imputation could be presumed to be dangerous. In addition, diffuse, precautionary measures of the prison would be sufficient and not the prison, which is the last alternative and should be used only in extreme cases”, he told the newspaper. The globe.
Another former education minister, Abraham Weintraub, said that more cases of corruption in the Ministry of Education will come to light. “Milton Ribeiro left and the whole gang stayed. So, they keep acting. There are many more things happening at MEC and at some point it will happen. I saw how people are angry, people are desperate”, said the former minister to the The globe.
“The team that generated all this lump is still there. The wear and tear will continue, more things will appear. And if it doesn’t show up now, it will show up next year. People are working, they wake up every day and go to work. And wrong people working do wrong things.”
Prison is serious
After Milton Ribeiro’s arrest, Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) said that a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate the case at the legislative level should not be installed easily. He classified the arrest as a “relevant fact” and “serious”, but not “determining”.
“The fact of the arrest of a former minister is obviously something serious, the investigation needs to be exhausted. And those who are guilty must be effectively held accountable. So it’s a legal issue that we have to be very careful to avoid pre-judgment”, said the president of the Senate.
Pacheco also stated that the fact that “a former minister of state, who until recently was in the Ministry of Education” was taken into custody “is more serious than a temporary detention”.
Weber demands PGR over inquiry against Bolsonaro
The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Rosa Weber demanded a manifestation of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) about a request for an investigation against President Jair Bolsonaro and the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, for alleged prevarication in childhood vaccination against covid. -19.
The investigation request was filed by Senator Alessandro Vieira (Citizenship-SE), by federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) and by Rio de Janeiro’s Secretary of Education, Renan Ferreirinha, in December last year. The following month, Weber forwarded the request to the PGR.
The investigation request was filed after Bolsonaro said that the immunization of children between the ages of five and 11 would only take place with parental authorization and through a protocol for side effects produced by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). The next day, the Minister of Health stated that “haste is the enemy of perfection” when he is charged for the delay in starting the vaccination of children.

PSDB must rethink support for Tebet
The pre-candidate for the government of Rio Grande do Sul Eduardo Leite (PSDB) said that support for the candidacy of senator Simone Tebet (MDB) for the Presidency of the Republic necessarily involves agreements between the toucans and the emedebistas on the regional platforms, especially in the election. gaucho
“It is not just a consideration for political support. It is a clear demonstration of an understanding in a national project. The PSDB is presenting this by giving up [de uma candidatura própria]. If the partner in the project does not show the same feeling, the relationship needs to be discussed,” Leite told the newspaper. The globe.
The toucan recalled that the PSDB gave up a candidacy for the presidency for the first time since redemocratization and said that the MDB needs to make a gesture in the same movement. “What is this project that we are building that does not open spaces to strengthen the national system?”, asked the former governor.
“My logic is one of construction. I hope that we reach an agreement to sign a partnership nationally and that it has its correspondence on the main platforms in the states.”
