Members of the Standing Committee on Science, Education and Spirituality of the Kharkiv Regional Council supported the request of the theater staff to rename it. It is reported Kharkov News.

“In connection with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, given the policy of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine on de-Russification, decommunization and decolonization of modern Ukraine, aimed at replacing the Soviet and Russian heritage with Ukrainian, clearing the public space of propaganda narratives, it became necessary to rename the Academic Russian Drama Theater named after Pushkin to the Kharkov Academic Drama Theatre,” the draft decision of the regional council says.
On June 15, the Chairman of the Kharkiv Regional Council signed an order to convene the next XII session. The plenary session will be held via videoconference. The date of the session has not yet been announced.
We will remind, earlier the Ukrainians have chosen new names for the streets of Kyiv. Subsequently, on the basis of expert conclusions, deputies of the city council will decide on the renaming of objects.
