The indicators of the covid-19 pandemic returned to present growth in Brazil this week. Between June 19 and 25, the number of diagnosed cases of the disease was 368,457, against 248,365 the previous week, an increase of 48%.
The number of deaths caused by covid also increased. There were 1,359 deaths in the period, an increase of 45% compared to the week of June 12th to 18th. The data are from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass)
The weekly death toll was the highest since the week of March 20-26, when 1,660 deaths were recorded. The number of cases was the most expressive since the week of February 20 to 26, when 576,463 cases of the disease were recorded in the country.
The increase in cases in Brazil can be explained by several factors. Arrival of the cold season in the center-south, reduction of measures to contain the virus, presence of more transmissible variants, stagnation in vaccination numbers and erroneous official information.

To stop the spread of the pandemic, it is necessary to reinforce vaccination, with aggressive campaigns, active searches for health services, mobilization of the population and the fight against fake news. It is essential, still to resume the mandatory use of mask in closed environments. This measure does not prevent the transmission only of covid, but of any respiratory disease.
Other measures are the expansion of testing and the tracking of cases and contacts to occur to isolate and interrupt the chain of transmission and alert the population about the real risks of this moment.
