In Poland, the head of the ruling Law and Justice party, Jarosław Kaczynski, has stepped down as deputy prime minister and head of the national security and defense committee. His resignation has already been accepted by Prime Minister Mateusz Marowiecki and President Andrzej Duda, writes Wprost with a link to the policy.
His successor in these two positions will be Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak. “This is a completely natural decision. We have a war, and he is the Minister of Defense, so in this particular situation in which we are, this combination has very great advantages,” he explained.
Kaczynski said that he intends to devote the freed time to work in the party and preparing for the parliamentary elections.
Yaroslav Kaczynski is the twin brother of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who died in a plane crash near Smolensk in the spring of 2010. After the death of his brother, Yaroslav Kaczynski ran for the presidency, but lost to Bronislaw Komarovsky.
The post of Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the power bloc was specially created in 2020 for Yaroslav Kaczynski. He has headed the Law and Justice party since 2003. In 2006-2007 he served as prime minister. His party won parliamentary elections in 2015 and 2019.
