The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the establishment of full control over the city of Severodonetsk in the Luhansk region, for which heavy fighting was fought for several weeks.
As the representative of the Russian defense department Igor Konashenkov said, in addition to Severodonetsk, the fighters of the so-called “LNR”, with the support of Russian troops under the command of General Sergei Surovkin, completely occupied the city of Borovskoye, as well as the settlements of Voronovo and Sirotino. Konashenkov also claims that “an attempt to turn the industrial zone of the Severodnetsk Azot enterprise into a center of resistance” was thwarted.
Prior to this, on Saturday, the capture of Severodonetsk by Russian troops was confirmed by the head of the Lugansk region, Sergei Gaidai. He wrote in his telegram channel that the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine left the city to pre-prepared positions. Earlier, the mayor of Severodonetsk Alexander Stryuk also spoke about this.
The Ukrainian General Staff announced on the eve that it would not provide any information about the movement and location of troops. Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Anna Malyar criticized the media that reported on the withdrawal of troops: “Public demonstration by civilians of awareness of the course of military operations and reporting this on social networks partly disrupts military operations – as was the case yesterday and the day before yesterday in Severodonetsk. When they simply did not allow the Armed Forces to finalize planned,” quotes Malyar “BBC”.
