The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) announced this Saturday (25) note on the violent action of the Military Police (PM) in the retaking of the Guapoy territory, in the municipality of Amambaí (MS), which took place this Friday (25), which left at least one dead and 10 injured.
The movement demands investigation of the case and punishment for all involved, including “the principals who are within the State Government”. “Those men who gave the voice of command in the Guapoy Massacre urgently need to be held accountable,” the note reads.
The text recalls that Mato do Grosso do Sul is a “scenario of continuous massacres”, rescuing the case of the Caarapó Massacre, when indigenous health agent Cloudione Souza, of the Kaiowá ethnic group, was murdered and ten other people injured in a shootout.

“And now, more indigenous blood is spilled in the south of the state, by ruralists and the military police, followers of greater voices from the highest echelons of decision-making powers (…) in exchange for more profits, more money for some transnational companies in the world. agribusiness. More money for the banks, more money for the farmers.” “In the lands of Guapoy there are blood, tears, pain, malnutrition and a lot of willingness to continue the fight for the land”, he adds.

In the Guapoy massacre the victims are Guarani and Kaiowá
The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) repudiates the massacre in Guapoy, municipality of Amambai, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which took place on June 24.
In the morning, soldiers and farmers without an eviction order invaded the area, shooting at women, the elderly, children, youth and indigenous men, with the aim of terrorizing and shooting mercilessly. So far, the death of two indigenous people has been confirmed, and that number could rise at any time, as there are more than 15 injured, hospitalized and dozens missing.
In addition to shots with rubber bullets and real bullets, carried out from a helicopter flying over Guapoy, the videos attest to this illegal act. The indigenous people are being threatened without being able to leave the region, for fear of being inside the hospitals.
The Guapoy territory plants soybeans/corn. This territory had already been retaken before after the death of the young indigenous Alex in Jopara, in the municipality of Coronel Sapucaia. In response, the indigenous people take back their lands. The Guapoy area was repossessed by the PM and was retaken again on the afternoon of June 23, by the indigenous people who live in the Amambay village. The municipality has the 2nd largest reserve in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, with about 10,000 indigenous people.
The state of Mato do Grosso do Sul is the scene of continuous massacres. In 2016, the Caarapó Massacre moved the world, with the murder of health worker Clodiodi. And so many other murders, by real bullets, being run over on highways, hunger, diseases and so on.
And now, more indigenous blood is spilled in the southern part of the state, by ruralists and the military police, vocal followers of the highest echelons of decision-making powers. Until when? In exchange for what? Indigenous blood shed in exchange for more profits, more money for some transnational agribusiness companies. More money for the banks, more money for the farmers. In the lands of Guapoy there are blood, tears, pain, malnutrition and a lot of willingness to continue the fight for the land.
It is necessary to build an international campaign in the Human Rights bodies to denounce and investigate all the murders of indigenous people. It is essential that all the principals who are within the State Government are punished. Those men who gave the voice of command for the Guapoy Massacre urgently need to be held accountable.
We demand that the authorities mobilize and take action to resolve conflicts over land.
