Women in situations of violence will be guaranteed free tickets on public transport in the city of Rio. The measure was established by the Move Woman Card ticket program instituted last Friday (24).
Law 7.430/2022, authored by councilor Welington Dias (PDT) and sanctioned by Mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD), aims to enable victims to be assisted in the services that make up the Specialized Network to Combat Violence Against Women.

According to the new norm, the transport fare allowance is intended for women in situations of domestic and family violence referred and assisted at the Specialized Center for Assistance to Women Chiquinha Gonzaga (CEAM), in the center of the capital; at the Casa da Mulher Carioca Tia Doca, in the Madureira neighborhood and at the Casa da Mulher Carioca Dinah Coutinho, in Realengo.
“Most women are in a situation of social and economic vulnerability, unemployed or underemployed and their income does not exceed the minimum wage. This situation makes it difficult or prevents the arrival and return of women for continuous care and monitoring”, explains the councilor and author of the law.
To implement the program, the city may sign agreements and/or partnerships with other secretariats, the state government, the federal government, civil society and private companies. The rule still has to be regulated by the municipality.
