Investigators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs asked The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow to appoint the rector of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) Vladimir Mau house arrest until August 7. The accusation is related to the case of fraud on an especially large scale (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code), in which the Deputy Minister of Education Marina Rakova and the rector of Shaninka Sergey Zuev are involved.
Mau and other employees of the university were searched, reported in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
On the evening of June 28, the rector of the RANEPA was summoned for interrogation, and the academy itself is being “searched”, told RBC is an unnamed acquaintance of the rector. With Mau “over the past two days” conducted “many hours of interrogation”, added unnamed source of the “Agency” from the environment of the economist.
The search at the rector of the RANEPA Vladimir Mau took place at 06:00 on Tuesday, June 28, claims Russian service of the Air Force with reference to sources at the university.
After the search, Mau was taken in for questioning, an unnamed academy employee told the publication. According to the Air Force, after the start of the search at Mau on the morning of June 28, the executive director of the RANEPA School of Media Communications, Tatyana Udalova, sent out a mailing list to the academy staff. She advised not to take calls from unknown numbers or from journalists, and also to inform her about such calls.
At the end of May, security officials searched the homes of eight former and current employees of the RANEPA. In particular, the former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science Maxim Dulinov, his deputy Evelina Aliyeva and the head of the Research Center for Strategy, Design and Legal Support of the RANEPA Olga Radionova.
Investigative actions were carried out in the case of fraud on an especially large scale with government contracts, which also involves Rakova and Professor Zuev. The rector of “Shaninka” was charged with embezzlement of more than 21 million rubles from the state Foundation for New Forms of Development of Education, which ordered several studies as part of the “Teacher of the Future” project. According to investigators, the university did not fulfill the contracts. The rector does not admit guilt.
Now Zuev, Rakova, as well as former employees of the fund, Yevgeny Zak, Maxim Inkin, Artur Stetsenko, are in jail, and the executive director of Shaninka, Kristina Kryuchkova, has been placed under house arrest.
On June 22, the Moscow City Court left Zuev in a pre-trial detention center, despite the decision of the cassation court, which recognized the arrest of the 67-year-old professor as illegal and sent the decision for a new trial.
Sergei Zuev detained October 11, 2021 in the hospital, where he was previously hospitalized with a hypertensive crisis. In November, the rector was transferred to City Clinical Hospital No. 20 for examination, but later he was transferred back to the medical unit of SIZO-1 “Matrosskaya Tishina”. At the end of January, the scientist’s lawyers said that he was in a pre-infarction state. The Federal Penitentiary Service said that the state of health of the rector “is assessed as satisfactory.”
On February 9, the defense demanded that civilian doctors be allowed to see Zuev in SIZO-1. According to lawyers, his condition requires transfer to a multidisciplinary hospital. They recorded health complaints under the protocol and received an independent medical report, which confirms the professor’s pre-infarction condition.
