State deputy Rodrigo Amorim (PTB-RJ) was denounced by the Regional Electoral Prosecutor’s Office (PRE) in Rio de Janeiro, an organ of the Electoral Public Ministry (MPE/RJ), for political gender violence against councilor Benny Briolly (Psol), from Niterói.
According to the complaint, on May 17, Amorim would have embarrassed and humiliated the councilor during a speech broadcast live on TV Alerj and later retransmitted on various social media, achieving great repercussion and victimizing Benny.

Amorim’s speech, according to the complaint by the state’s Regional Electoral Attorney’s Office, aimed to prevent and hinder the performance of the councilor’s mandate. The deputy treated Benny, who is black and trans, as “boizebu”, “a freak of nature”, “a male councilor from Niterói” and “freaks of ‘LGBTQYZH”.
“With these words, the accused embarrassed, humiliated and persecuted the victim Benny Briolly, with contempt and discrimination, subjugating her for being a trans woman and with the purpose of preventing and / or hindering the performance of her elective mandate in the Niterói City Council. , in view of her notorious professional, parliamentary and political performance related to agendas in defense of women and the LGBTQIA+ community”, says the complaint.

According to the Electoral Code, the crimes described in the complaint against Amorim carry a penalty of 1 to 4 years in prison and a fine. If the complaint is accepted by the Regional Electoral Court (TRE/RJ), the Bolsonaro deputy may be ineligible for eight years.
The parliamentarian’s advice stated that he will not comment until he is notified of the MPE/RJ’s complaint.
