British media – TV channel Sky News and BBC Prime Minister Boris Johnson is reported to have agreed to step down. In the coming hours, the politician will make an official statement. Johnson is expected to step down as leader of the Conservatives, while continuing to serve as prime minister until the fall.
Previously reportedthat at least 50 politicians left the British government due to a loss of confidence in Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Among those who retired are both heads of ministries and deputies who take part in the work of the government without being members of it.
There is no one specific reason for this decision – it is a whole series of scandals that accompanies Johnson’s rule. The largest of them were parties at the prime minister’s residence, which he held during the lockdowns. On them, members of the cabinet drank and did not comply with anti-covid measures, which they themselves established for residents of the UK.
The second largest scandal is connected with a high-ranking member of the Conservative Party, Chris Pincher: while intoxicated, he molested two men in a private club. It was Johnson who appointed the MP. The prime minister did not notice that Pincher had already been the subject of a parliamentary investigation into inappropriate sexual behavior.
In early June, the Prime Minister already withstood a vote of no confidence, although the margin in his favor was minimal – many heads of the British government left office even with more impressive successes in the vote.
Polls YouGov, the work of the government is disapproved by 60 percent of the British, Johnson personally by 71 percent. If elections were held last week, more people would vote for Labor than for the Conservatives, and the latter would lose at least 26 seats in parliament, sociologists predict.
