Egypt invited Israel and the Palestinian Authority to conclude a truce. It is reported by Reuters, citing sources. According to them, a peace agreement can be concluded as early as tonight.
Israel agreed to a truce, the Palestinians have not yet responded to this proposal, claims Reuters. Channel “Al Jazeera” conveys that the Islamic Jihad group is refusing the agreement. It demands that Israel immediately release several dozen people arrested in Judea and Samaria for terrorist activities.
On August 5, the Israeli army launched Operation Dawn against the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip. Representatives of the Israeli military said that the hostilities would last as long as necessary. On the evening of August 7, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid announced that he considered the objectives of the operation to be accomplished.
According to media reports, almost 600 rockets have been launched from Gaza into Israeli territory since the start of the operation. About 30 Israelis were injured.
As a result of Israeli attacks on Islamic Jihad bases, two commanders of the group, Khaled Mansour and Taysir al-Jabari, were killed. The Ministry of Health of the Palestinian Authority reported 32 dead, including six children, and 253 injured as a result of Israeli strikes.
