An ordinance published this Friday (12) in the Official Diary of the Union recognized an emergency situation in 14 municipalities in Mato Grosso do Sul affected by the lack of rain and forest fires since June.
According to the Ordinance 2,554published by the National Secretariat for Civil Defense and Protection, linked to the Ministry of Regional Development, the emergency situation affects the cities of Anastácio, Aquidauana, Bodoquena, Bonito, Corguinho, Corumbá, Coxim, Jardim, Ladário, Miranda, Porto Murtinho, Rio Negro, Rio Verde de Mato Grosso and Sonora.
With the declaration of a state of emergency, city halls are now authorized to request resources to assist the most affected populations. According to the portal G1R$ 38 million will be made available at this first moment.
The same 14 cities are already under an emergency situation recognized by the government of Mato Grosso do Sul since June 21. The decree of the state executive is valid until December.
At the time it decreed the state of emergency, the government of Mato Grosso do Sul stated that the state is experiencing one of the worst droughts in recent years. Some regions had rains up to half of what was expected for the period, which caused hotspots and large-scale fires, especially in the Pantanal region.
