Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that the Russian occupiers leave the ZNPP
Ukraine is ready to ensure proper control by the IAEA at the Zaporozhye NPP, the head of state assured.
The mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) can be sent to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant legally, quickly and as efficiently as possible. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in a video message on the evening of Thursday, August 17.
According to him, Ukrainian diplomats, nuclear energy specialists and IAEA representatives are now working on sending an international mission to ZNPP.
“Ukraine is ready to ensure proper control by the IAEA, and the corresponding mission can be sent to the Zaporozhye station legally, very quickly and as efficiently as possible,” he said.
He stressed that only absolute transparency and controllability of the situation at the ZNPP and around it can guarantee Ukraine, the international community and the IAEA a gradual return to normal nuclear safety.
Also, according to the president, the Russian army must get out of the territory of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and all neighboring regions, take their military equipment from the station.
“This should happen without any conditions and as soon as possible,” Zelensky concluded.
Earlier, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi, repeatedly stated his readiness to send a mission to the ZNPP to check the situation there.
According to the estimates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Energoatom, the situation with the militarization of nuclear power plants by the invaders continues to deteriorate.
