The Basmanny Court of Moscow postponed to September 19 the hearing on the lawsuit on the liquidation of the representative office of the Jewish Agency “Sokhnut” in Russia.
The Sokhnut representative at the trial asked for a two-month conciliation procedure, but the Ministry of Justice objected, and the court refused to appoint such a procedure, Kommersant writes.
The second petition of the Jewish Agency with a request to postpone the meeting was granted by the court. Within a month, “Sohnut” plans to form a position on new written evidence and eliminate the identified violations.
The Jewish agency “Sokhnut” is engaged in repatriation to Israel. In July, the Ministry of Justice demanded that the agency’s representative office in Russia be liquidated. According to the department, the agency was illegally collecting personal data of Russians – apparently, it means working with personal data of clients seeking advice.
Israeli media reported that the Russian authorities suspected Sokhnut of organizing a brain drain and wanting to organize the repatriation of businessmen and scientists in the first place. The Kremlin rejected this.
Russia and Israel are discussing the situation around Sokhnut at a high level, but the agency is considering closing the Russian representative office and transferring work online.
