The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) denounced federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for illegal possession of a firearm and illegal embarrassment with the use of a firearm. The allegations happen as a result of an episode recorded on October 29 last year, when she threatened to shoot a man in São Paulo.
The episode was recorded and widely publicized on social media. One of the closest allies of the then president and candidate for re-election, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Zambelli attacked a black man. If the PGR’s complaint is upheld by the STF, Zambelli will become a defendant and will have to respond to criminal action.

Zambelli also said that he was legally authorized to carry a weapon by the Federal Police. The deputy alleges that she only drew the gun “because the person who unjustly attacked her and threatened her several times was arrested”.

On October 29, a Saturday, the eve of the second round of the 2022 elections, Zambelli pulled a gun on the street in São Paulo and chased a man. The episode took place on Rua Joaquim Eugênio de Lima, in the central region of São Paulo.
In a video that circulated on social media at the time of the incident, the parliamentarian appears with a gun in her hand, running after the man hiding in a snack bar. Supported by aides, Zambelli enters the place and orders: “lie down on the ground”.
At the time, the man who was attacked by Zambelli, Luan Araújo, stated that he feared for his life and that of his family. Journalist Vinícius Costa, author of one of the videos that showed the episode, also claimed to have received threats after the case.
As a result of the episode, Zambelli received an order, signed by Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the STF, to return the weapon.
