The head of state said that the admission of Russian representatives to the Olympics, which is to be held in Paris, is unacceptable.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has sent a letter to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron regarding Russia’s admission to the Olympics, which is to be held in Paris in 2024. The head of state said this during an evening video message on Sunday, January 29.
According to Zelensky, the attempts of the International Olympic Committee to return Russian athletes to competitions and the Olympic Games “is an attempt to tell the whole world that terror can be something acceptable.”
“Allegedly, one can turn a blind eye to what Russia is doing with Kherson, with Kharkov, with Bakhmut and Avdiivka (…) In the first half of the 20th century, too many mistakes were made in Europe, which led to very terrible tragedies. There was also a significant Olympic mistake” , the president said.
He emphasized that the Olympic Movement and terrorist states should definitely not intersect.
Earlier it was reported that the European Olympic Committees are not against the return of Russians and Belarusians to international tournaments. They expressed their position in an official statement.
Recall, the NOC reported that if the Russians were admitted, Ukraine could boycott the Olympics.
