The Central District Court of Tyumen found Kirill Martyushev guilty of public incitement to extremism (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), Network Freedom reports.
The court also banned Martyushev from administering Internet resources for two years. The state prosecution asked for four years in prison for Martyushev.
According to 72.ru, Martyushev did not admit his guilt. Speaking about the guilty verdict, the man said that he could not harm anyone by his act and believes that the investigation was guided by circumstantial evidence of guilt.
In July 2022, the Tyumen citizen was included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring.
A resident of Tyumen has been in a pre-trial detention center since March last year. The reason for initiating the case was the publication on February 24, 2022 of a video message in the #NETVOINE telegram channel. In it, Martyushev talked about the need for the death penalty against police officers or the National Guard who use violence against their citizens.
According to investigators, the video contained “signs of inducement in the form of a call for violent action” against the security forces. With this video, as stated in the petition, “at least 40 users” of the messenger got acquainted.
The activist was previously fined 19,000 rubles for participating in an anti-war rally. On March 5, the police came to his house, confiscated his equipment and leaflets, after which Martyushev was taken away for interrogation.
