A sociologist from Kazan, Iskander Yasaveev, recognized as a “foreign agent”, was charged with “inciting hatred or enmity” (Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation) because of his material “Like a boy or in a Soviet way: why is Russia fighting?”, published in the summer last year, Idel.Realii reports.
Yasaveev, according to him, was summoned to the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Tatarstan in order to return the things seized from him during a search conducted in August 2022. When the man came to the “E” center, he was shown a decision of the prosecutor’s office of the Vakhitovsky district of Kazan on initiating a case for the material published in Idel.
In this material, the author, in particular, called the culture of street gangs, which allegedly influenced Vladimir Putin, fully consistent with Soviet culture. According to Yasaveev, Russia will need de-Sovietization in the future.
According to linguistic expertise, “the presented text contains linguistic signs of incitement to violent actions against a social group on the basis of nationality, signs of humiliation of human dignity on the basis of social (professional) affiliation, signs of inciting hostility, hatred towards a group of persons distinguished by social sign”.
Yasaveev said he did not know what exactly the signs were, and expressed the hope that this would “be cleared up in court.” He also noted that a trial in this case has not yet been scheduled.
In October last year, Yasaveev was added to the register of “foreign agents.” After being declared a “foreign agent,” the man was fired from the St. Petersburg branch of the Higher School of Economics.
