Prisoner Ruslan Abaev, who is being held in a criminal case of torture in the Angarsk colony No. 15, was recruited into the Wagner PMC, write Sibir.Realii.
The victim in the case, Vladimir Spiridonov, accuses Abaev of torturing him on March 31, 2022, while being a prisoner and collaborating with the administration of IK-15, on behalf of the Federal Penitentiary Service. Abaev and two other prisoners, Bulochev and Popov, were interrogated as witnesses. On January 5, the investigator suspended the preliminary investigation due to the fact that the accused had not been identified. The Criminal Investigation Department was instructed to find the persons to be brought in as defendants.
Spiridonov said that he was beaten at once by three prisoners, including Abaev. “They beat me for several days, even after a while after the attack, doctors recorded multiple injuries to the head, arms and legs, hematomas and fractures,” he said.
The human rights activist of the Foundation “In defense of the rights of prisoners” Petr Kuryanov believes that the investigation is beneficial recruitment and departure of the accused to Ukraine. The fact that Ruslan Abaev left Angarsk colony No. 15 due to recruitment in the Wagner PMC was confirmed by three independent sources.
According to a source in IK-15, Abaev was recruited during the first visit of the PMC. “Rusya (Abaev) was among the first, he’s like a recidivist, several thefts, the last – with the use of violence, weapons. This frostbitten immediately agreed (to go to war). He, in fact, did this in recent years, when he got out into “reptiles” (the so-called “pressers”) – he beat, tortured, sometimes killed. According to the sentence, he did not have much left to shake – three years, “he said.
Olga Romanova on pardoning prisoners who fought in Ukraine:
An acquaintance of Abaev from the city of Bratsk said that Ruslan Abaev got in touch when he was near Lugansk. “It seems that, as far as I understand, he was supposed to participate in the battles near Bakhmut. After that, he did not get in touch. He complained about poor preparation, they say, there was time in the camp, but they were not really prepared, and those prisoners had all the good equipment , one of the former cops and the military, and they literally fight with their hands. Allegedly, such cases that the shells were not delivered on time are a common thing, – says the source. – He was very dissatisfied with the conditions (they say, he even ate better in the colony) and complained, that they are being watched very harshly, saying that it (the command) is better if a fighter dies due to running out of ammunition, hunger or an untreated wound than running away,” he says.
For several months now, Russia has been sending prisoners from Russian colonies to the war with Ukraine, including those convicted of grave and especially grave violent crimes: murder, robbery, rape. This practice raises many questions among human rights activists, especially the fact that prisoners who have recruited for the front are promised pardon if they survive six months of hostilities.
