PMC Wagner in Canada wants to be recognized as a terrorist organization
The deputies pointed to the organization’s violation of human rights and attacks on civilians in Ukraine, as well as in other parts of the world.
The lower house of the Parliament of Canada unanimously supported a resolution on the proposal of the government to officially recognize PMC Wagner as a terrorist organization. Geezer McPherson, MP from the New Democratic Party, stated this, Ukrinform reports.
“In light of reports of Russian-backed Wagner Group human rights violations and attacks on civilians in Ukraine, as well as in other parts of the world, the House of Commons calls on the government to immediately designate the Wagner Group as a terrorist organization,” the document reads.
It is noted that in Canada, the decision to include certain organizations in the list of terrorists is within the powers of the government, so this decision is advisory, not mandatory.
Earlier, the United States imposed new sanctions against PMC Wagner and at the same time declared it a transnational criminal organization. The restrictions apply to six individuals and 12 legal entities associated with PMC Wagner or contributing to its activities.
