
Tropical cyclone hits Madagascar
Another 20 people are missing. In total, about 89 thousand people suffered from the consequences of the cyclone. Many of them were forced to leave their homes.
The death toll from tropical cyclone Cheneso, which hit Madagascar last week, has risen to 30 people. Authorities had previously announced 25 dead. This was reported on January 31 by the Associated Press.
Another 20 people are missing, according to the island nation’s National Risk and Disaster Management Bureau.
It is noted that about 89 thousand people suffered from the consequences of the cyclone. Many of them were forced to leave their homes, destroyed by hurricane winds with gusts of about 170 km/h.
Numerous landslides caused the collapse of buildings. The northeastern regions of Madagascar were most affected.
It was previously reported that at least 16 people died as a result of a tropical storm, accompanied by heavy rains, in Madagascar in southern Africa.
