IOC offended by criticism of Ukraine
The International Olympic Committee said they reject “slanderous statements” by Ukraine.
The International Olympic Committee rejected sharp criticism from the Ukrainian authorities, who accused the IOC of instigating the war. This happened due to the intention of the organization to allow the Russians to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Reuters reports.
The IOC called criticism of Ukraine “slanderous” and not conducive to “constructive discussion.”
“The IOC strongly rejects these and other slanderous statements. They cannot form the basis for any constructive discussion,” the International Olympic Committee said in a statement.
Recall, on the eve of President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the attempts of the International Olympic Committee to return Russian athletes to competitions and the Olympic Games “is an attempt to tell the whole world that terror can be something acceptable.”
“Allegedly, one can turn a blind eye to what Russia is doing with Kherson, with Kharkov, with Bakhmut and Avdiivka (…) In the first half of the 20th century, too many mistakes were made in Europe, which led to very terrible tragedies. There was also a significant Olympic mistake” , the president said.
Earlier it was reported that the European Olympic Committees are not against the return of Russians and Belarusians to international tournaments. They expressed their position in an official statement.
Before that, the NOC was informed that if the Russians were admitted, Ukraine could boycott the Olympics.
